Alternative arrangements: In the event that I, as the celebrant, am unable to attend the rehearsal or the ceremony due to illness or some other really good reason, with your permission I will brief a suitably authorised celebrant in whom I trust to provide a professional service and they will be able to take my place for your event.

Script for Wedding Ceremony:

Celebrant: Welcomes everyone on behalf of the Couple… Hello everyone. I would like to welcome you and thank you for being here today to witness the marriage of Partner1 and Partner2. Our ceremony is about to begin, please silence your phones and gather in to take your seats.

Music: Queued by music starting, Partner2 will approach the altar escorted by _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Celebrant: Ladies, gentlemen, friends, family and loved ones, on behalf of Partner1 and Partner2, I would like to thank you all for being here. For taking the time and making the journey, and for all the effort that it takes. Not only to be a part of this day, but to be a part of each other’s lives.

Today is a celebration! A celebration of love, of commitment, of friendship, of family, and of two people who are in it together for forever.

Celebrant: (legally required) My name is Ronald Cruickshank, and I am duly authorised by law to solemnize marriages according to law. Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter. Marriage according to law in Australia, is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.  

Celebrant: Partner1 and Partner2, please turn and face each other, holding both hands, and gaze lovingly into each other’s eyes…

Partner1 repeats: (legally required)

Partner1: I call upon the persons here present to witness that I Partner1's full name, take you, Partner2's full name , to be my lawful wedded wife.

Partner2 repeats: (legally required)

Partner2: I call upon the persons here present to witness that I Partner2's full name, take you, Partner1's full name , to be my lawful wedded husband.

Partner1’s Vow: e.g. I, Partner1, take you, Partner2, as my friend and love, beside me and apart from me, in laughter and in tears, in conflict and tranquillity, asking that you be no other than yourself, loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not know yet, in all the ways that life may find us.

Partner2’s Vow: e.g. I, Partner2, take you, Partner1, as my friend and love, beside me and apart from me, in laughter and in tears, in conflict and tranquillity, asking that you be no other than yourself, loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not know yet, in all the ways that life may find us.

Celebrant:  Partner1 and Partner2 will now exchange rings as a symbol of their love and commitment to each other.

Who bears the rings?

Ring bearer: Produces the rings and hands them to the couple or the celebrant.

Partner1 places Partner2’s ring on their finger and say:

Partner2, I give you this ring as a symbol of my vow, and with all that I am, and all that I have, I honour you, in the name of Love.

Partner2 places Partner1’s ring on their finger and say:

Partner2, I give you this ring as a symbol of my vow, and with all that I am, and all that I have, I honour you, in the name of Love.

Celebrant:  You’ve both chosen to wear rings as a reminder of the promises and vows you have just made. Your wedding rings are a symbol of never-ending love and your long journey together. It is the seal of the vows you have just taken to love each other without end.

Celebrant: It is with great pride that I now pronounce you to be husband and wife!

Congratulations! You may now kiss! 

Celebrant Congratulations: Partner1 and Partner2, I congratulate you on the beginning of your lives as a married couple. May your journey together be filled with every happiness, love, peace and joy forever and always!

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Mr. & Mrs. Partner1 and Partner2 (chosen surname)

Signing: We now proceed, with your witnesses, to the signing table to complete the legal documents required by the Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, and sign your Certificate of Marriage. 

Music: Gentle background music plays while the couple sign their certificates.

Declaration: Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now official— Mr and Mrs Partner1 and Partner2 (chosen surname)

Music: Fanfare music plays while the couple join their guests.
